Resilience is a lifelong process, a day-by-day process learning how to navigate the small things and sometimes the bigger lessons too.
Resilience isn’t something you’re born with, but something you build. Think of resilience as a skill that can be improved on as you go through life.
Self-care is getting a lot of attention and rightly so because when you write for the purpose of improving your wellbeing, to move trauma for example, it is important to be able to apply the brakes if you feel overwhelmed. However, it’s easy for this word to lose all sense of meaning when things get hard. Or to use it as a crutch which can prevent you from moving forward, keeping you stuck.
The balance of self-care starts with the basics, exercise, sleep and nutritional food. What area of your life is in need of a resilience boost? Is it needed in your relationships or work? Perhaps you need to look at boundaries and establish better ones.
What about your health? Are you sick a lot and in need of a miracle cure? Try taking daily cold showers or if you dare to dip in an ice bath, that’s even more effective.
Who’d have thought plunging into an ice bath has the ability to keep you in physical tip-top shape and also gives you an abundance of mental capabilities? Does it make you superhuman? Why not try it and find out for yourself!
Speaking of mental clarity, for all wannabe writers out there, a daily cold water plunge ignites the senses and allows creativity to flow effortlessly.
The grace of putting pen to paper is becoming another basic tool in the self-care bracket, everyone is doing it. Whether it is writing in a journal or using a phone app to keep track of thoughts, the writing buzz is catching on.
Building Resilience 4-week short course opens online in the WriteWell Community this February. It’s the perfect course to get you motivated this new year.
